Dog Men Poets
The sound: Like the 'A' Team kidnapped George Clinton on their way to Mexico. The music is influenced by artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, G-Love, Sublime, and the Beastie Boys. "Pulling in styles of funk, soul, and hip hop, DMP can most certainly throw down." Manilla Magazine U.K.
The DMP came about when Brouillet and Matt Barker, who had just moved to the US from Scotland, unexpectedly found themselves in the middle of a freestyle jam on a friend’s front stoop. Their seemingly opposing styles took on a soulful rock-hop flavor of its own that quickly created a buzz. This spirit is what led to the name Dog Men Poets. Dog Men, coming from a Cheyenne tribe composed of estranged individuals and the addition of Poets to the group's name, a nod to Brouillet's spoken word and poetry background.
Determination and hard work are the cornerstones of the DMP's philosophy. They single handedly put their debut album's single "Anthem" on over 110 radio stations. Then their fans enthusiasm and support propelled them to 10 Top 25 listings. They've been rewarded for their hard work with numerous magazine reviews, TV appearances, and receiving a Sam Ash Sponsorship.
From the studio to the streets, the high octane groove sweating shows to the subtle nuances of a smooth four part harmony on a funky bass / vintage keyboard driven hook, the Dog Men Poets have come of age. They were voted "Best Party Band 2006" by Edge Magazine, "Best New Group" by San Antonio Current, and "Top 5 Bands to Watch in 2006" by Feedback Magazine. Their debut album "Birth of the Cool" has been nominated MTM "Texas Indie Album of the Year," San Antonio Current's "Best Album of the Year," and featured tracks in a number of indiependent movies.
