Magnolia Blue rolls in like a freight train with a big bluesy, funky sound driven by the Allman-esque guitars of Kevin Miller, the funky Nawlins back beat provided by Andy Armstrong on drums, thumpin and bumpin lows by Judd Gravelle and Hammond B3 sounds by Brian Dodds. Chris Givens's sweet vocals and sax and Neil Holcomb's big bluesy soul round out the band's unique sound.
The band could be booked as a tribute act to the Dead, Allmans or Little Feat, but the average show mixes those tunes with other funky 70s material from Joe Cocker to Peter Frampton and from the Meters to Dr. John.
"It's just the coolest 70s funky blues review I've ever seen" says Chris Woodson of Fairfax, VA.
