The Blue Gill Queen was founded by Lucio Oquendo after writing over 90 songs in a matter of five years. After settling on 10 songs, there was a demo made entitled "Eskimo Songs." There have been only two more songs written under the Blue Gill Queen Moniker. We listen to many different kinds of music, influences range greatly. Rush, The Smiths, Radiohead, Team Sleep, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Hella, Cap'n Jazz, At The Drive In.
Plays intense ambient music with a progressive twist.
Joe Marcott (bass, guitar) and Sam Barsi (Percussion) joined in March 2007, while Nate Burdick (Fender Rhodes, Vibraphone, Guitar, Bass) had joined in June 2007. There have only been four shows played in this incarnation due to varying distances between each member (Sam and Joe live in Macomb, Il. While Nate lives in Urbana, and Lucio lives in Chicago.) Derek Hammond is also a fill in Guitarist, and Engineer in the band.
