The West 79th Street Funk Jazz Band

West 79th Street Funk Jazz Band hopes to bring to the mainstream a jazz consciousness with its own style of creative grooves, break beats, that will fill your hearts with rhythm and soul. This eclectic group has performed public and private events across the city bringing an innovative style of jazz that includes the genres of Funk, R&B, and Hip-Hop. The band has been advertised in articles and newspapers such as the L.A Weekly and the Los Angeles City Beat. In addition, the band has played at reputable venues like the Disneyland Hotel, and the Queen Mary. Formed in 2003, the West 79th Street Funk Jazz Band was formerly a house band for "The Kitchen on 43rd street" restaurant located in Leimert Park, California. The bandleader George Woods grew up near West 79th street on Figueroa in South Los Angeles, CA, where he began his music ventures representing the music, creativity, and legacy of the historic Central Ave., once a jazz Mecca George studied hand percussion in New York also working on his degree in Communications & Media Arts at Dutchess Community College. Coming back to Los Angeles, George pursued his Bachelors degree in Business Management while slowly forming the West 79th Street Funk Jazz band. George is currently pursuing his MBA in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. Because of the band success, its new focus is to contribute a portion of its earnings to non-profit organizations and for the band to provide community involvement.
